Timeless English Interiors
Creating homes that feel as beautiful as they look.
Creating homes that feel as beautiful as they look.
I specialise in the perfectly imperfect English interior style - homes that feel layered, warm and welcoming rather than overtly styled.
For me, great interior design goes beyond how a space looks.
It is about how it feels.
Every project begins with understanding the space itself - its architecture, its setting and the atmosphere it naturally holds.
From there, I consider how the space is to be lived in or experienced.
In a private home, this means understanding the people who live there.
In a holiday property, it means imagining the guest — how they arrive, how they relax and how they want to feel during their stay.
This is where my approach differs.
Rather than applying a fixed style, I respond to the space – shaping the design around the feeling it wants to create: calm, welcoming, uplifting or restorative.
From there, I translate this into colour, texture, materials and detail, layering everything in a way that feels natural, balanced and timeless.
This is why my interiors feel effortless — because they belong to the space, rather than being imposed upon it.
A home should not simply look beautiful.
It should feel like home.
I’m Esther Walker, founder of Springfield House Interiors.
I create timeless English interiors for character homes and luxury holiday retreats.
My approach is both intuitive and considered.
I have a natural ability to read a space — its light, proportions and surroundings — supported by an understanding of colour psychology and how people respond to their environment, allowing me to create interiors that feel effortless rather than designed.
My earlier career leading global customer loyalty programmes also gave me a deep understanding of experience design — something that now shapes my work, particularly in the luxury holiday market, where every detail contributes to how a guest feels.
Many people can recreate a look.
Very few can create how a home feels.
I was recently commissioned to design the interiors of the Grade I listed Coach House at Middleton Hall, set within one of Derbyshire’s most beautiful private estates. Following its success, I was invited to design further rooms within the family home.
My own kitchen, designed in collaboration with Neptune, was later featured in Derbyshire Life.
These projects confirmed something I have always believed:
Beautiful homes are not created by copying trends — but by understanding the space, the setting and the people who experience it.

I combine intuitive understanding with a structured design process to create interiors that feel both considered and effortless.
What I create goes beyond design.
It is the feeling of walking into a space and instantly exhaling — a quiet sense of comfort, ease and belonging.
This comes from understanding not just how a room should look, but how it should live, and how it should feel to the people within it.
It is this attention to atmosphere and experience that defines my work.
I offer interior design consultation and concept design to help you:
• define the feeling and atmosphere you want your space to create
• shape a clear and cohesive vision for your home or guest property
• select colours, furniture and fabrics that work in harmony
• bring balance, warmth and character to each room
• enhance the experience through carefully considered detail
Whether designing a private home or a luxury holiday retreat, my role is to create spaces that feel effortless, welcoming and beautifully considered.

I work across both private residential homes and luxury holiday properties throughout Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
I take on a limited number of projects each year, allowing me to give each one the care, attention and detail it deserves.
If you feel drawn to this way of working, I would love to hear about your home and what you would like it to become.
Client, Derbyshire
This Grade I listed coach house sits within historic parkland on one of Derbyshire’s most distinguished private estates.
The design drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape, using natural tones, layered textures and classic English fabrics to create a calm and inviting retreat.
What makes this project particularly special is not just how it looks — but how it feels.
Guests consistently describe the space as warm, peaceful and deeply comfortable, with thoughtful details that elevate the entire experience.
Alongside the interior design, I also shaped the finer details of the guest experience — considering how guests arrive, relax and live in the space — ensuring every element feels cohesive, comfortable and quietly luxurious.
The Coach House is now recognised as a top-performing luxury holiday let within the Derbyshire market,
achieving consistent 5-star reviews and exceptional guest feedback.

Each project begins with a digital mood board, accompanied by a beautifully curated box of fabric and material swatches to explore colour, texture and atmosphere.

Attention to detail is at the heart of every beautiful interior, from furniture and fabrics to the smallest finishing touches

Careful room planning was essential to maximise storage within the narrow architectural layout, ensuring the finished space feels both elegant and practical
Every home is deeply personal.
The colours, textures and objects we surround ourselves with shape how we feel and how we live each day.
My process begins by understanding you — your lifestyle, your tastes and the feeling you want your home to create.
Colour plays a central role in how a space feels.
While I use colour profiling as part of my process, much of this comes naturally to me.
Through experience, I have developed a strong ability to read a person’s natural preferences — often reflected in how they dress, how they live and how they express themselves.
This allows me to instinctively understand the palettes, tones and atmosphere that will feel most comfortable and aligned.
Some spaces call for softness and calm, others for warmth, depth or energy.
My role is to interpret this and translate it into a colour palette that feels both natural and effortless within the space.
This is why my interiors feel personal — because they are not chosen from a formula, but carefully shaped around both the individual and the environment.
I then develop a carefully considered design concept, layering colour, pattern, materials and furniture to create a space that feels balanced, welcoming and timeless.
I do not follow trends, I create homes that feel calm, joyful and beautifully lived in.

Every home is unique, but there are a few guiding principles that underpin the way I approach interior design.
Homes should feel personal
A home should reflect the people who live there — their memories, their tastes and their way of life. The most interesting interiors are never formulaic.
Beautiful interiors are created through layering
The most inviting rooms develop over time. A thoughtful mixture of antique, vintage and contemporary pieces creates depth and character.
Comfort matters as much as appearance
A room should feel welcoming and easy to live in. Furniture placement, lighting, fabrics and acoustics all contribute to a sense of comfort.
Nature should be welcomed indoors
Fresh flowers, natural materials and colours drawn from the landscape bring warmth and vitality to an interior.
Timelessness over trends
Good interiors should not feel dated after a season or two. By focusing on quality, craftsmanship and enduring design, a home can evolve gracefully over many years.
If you would like guidance in shaping your own home in this way, I would be delighted to help you develop a design that feels both beautiful and entirely your own.
