Experience-led design
for luxury holiday properties
and character homes
I specialise in designing characterful luxury holiday properties where every detail is considered through the lens of guest experience.
I also create the timeless 'perfectly imperfect' English interior style for private homes — spaces that feel layered, warm and welcoming rather than overtly styled.
For me, great interior design goes beyond how a space looks.
It is about how it feels — and how it is experienced.
Every project begins with understanding the space itself:
its architecture, its setting and the atmosphere it naturally holds.
From there, I consider how the space is to be lived in.
In a private home, this means understanding the people who live there.
In a holiday property, it means imagining the guest — how they arrive, how they settle, how they relax and how they move through the space.
Both aesthetics and practicality are considered equally, because it is these moments — often the smallest details — that shape how a stay is experienced and remembered.
Rather than applying a fixed style, I respond to the space, shaping the design around the feeling it wants to create: calm, welcoming, uplifting or restorative.
I then translate this into colour, texture, materials and detail — layering everything in a way that feels natural, balanced and timeless.
But beyond aesthetics, I consider the experience as a whole — how a space supports comfort, ease and enjoyment in a way that feels effortless.
This is why my interiors feel instinctive — because they belong to the space and to the people within it, rather than being imposed upon it.
A home should not simply look beautiful.
It should feel like home — and in a holiday setting, somewhere you never quite want to leave.
I’m Esther Walker, founder of Springfield House Interiors.
I create timeless English interiors for luxury holiday properties and character homes — combining interior design with a deep understanding of how people experience space.
Rather than a traditional full-service design model, I approach design strategically, using experience as the foundation for every decision. I offer a focused, concept-led approach - shaping the overall vision, atmosphere and direction of the space so it comes together beautifully.
My design approach is both intuitive and considered.
I have a natural ability to read a space — its light, proportions and surroundings — supported by an understanding of colour and how people respond to their environment. This allows me to create interiors that feel effortless rather than designed.
For holiday properties I also bring a commercial perspective shaped by my earlier career leading global customer loyalty programmes and managing high-value client accounts. My focus was to exceed expectations and deliver excellence.
At the heart of that work was a simple principle:
Make the customer the hero of your story.
That same thinking now underpins my design work.
I design spaces around the guest or homeowner — considering how they feel, how they experience their stay, and ultimately how they remember it.
Because when the experience is right, the performance naturally follows.
Many properties focus on maximising occupancy.
I focus on maximising experience — because that is what guests remember, review and return for.
This approach is demonstrated in the Grade I listed Coach House at Middleton Hall — a luxury holiday property set within one of Derbyshire’s most distinguished private estates.
Consistently rated 5 stars, guest feedback repeatedly highlights not only the interiors, but how the space feels to stay in.
My own kitchen, designed in collaboration with Neptune, was later featured in Derbyshire Life.
These projects confirmed something I have always believed:
Beautiful homes are not created by copying trends, but by understanding the space, the setting — and the people who experience it.

Many people can recreate a look.
Very few can create how a home feels.
I work with holiday property owners and private homeowners to refine their spaces so they feel cohesive, comfortable and complete.
This may involve rethinking layout and use of space, refining materials and furnishings, or introducing small but important details that elevate how a space is experienced.
Whether designing a private home or a luxury holiday retreat — the result is an interior that feel effortless, welcoming and beautifully considered.

What I offer goes beyond design.
I design with experience in mind.
I consider how a space is entered, how it is lived in, and how it feels across the course of a day, or a stay.
The small moments matter - where you place a drink at night, how a chair feels to sit, the softness of towels, the warmth of lighting, the ease of moving through a room.
These details are often overlooked, but they are what shape how a space is felt and remembered.
I have a strong understanding of how people experience space through light, colour, texture and detail, and how these elements create a sense of ease, of quiet luxury - of grace.
I translate this into interiors that feel instinctively right and beautifully balanced, whether in a private home or a luxury holiday property.
This attention to atmosphere and experience is what defines my work.
I aim to create the feeling of walking into a space and instantly exhaling - a quiet sense of comfort, ease and belonging. As though you have returned home.
This is where my work creates a difference.
Because when you focus on the experience of the person with the space - not just how it looks - the impact is felt.
And in a holiday property, that difference is reflected in stronger reviews, higher perceived value, and return bookings.
Client, Derbyshire
This Grade I listed coach house sits within historic parkland on one of Derbyshire’s most distinguished private estates.
The design drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape, using natural tones, layered textures and classic English fabrics to create a calm and inviting retreat.
What makes this project particularly special is not just how it looks, but how it feels.
Guests consistently describe the space as warm, peaceful and deeply comfortable, with thoughtful details that elevate the entire experience.
Alongside the interior design, I also shaped the finer details of the guest experience — considering how guests arrive, relax and live in the space, ensuring every element feels cohesive, comfortable and quietly luxurious.
The Coach House is now recognised as a top-performing luxury holiday let within the Derbyshire market,
achieving consistent 5-star reviews and exceptional guest feedback.
Guest Feedback

Each project begins with a digital mood board, accompanied by a beautifully curated box of fabric and material swatches to explore colour, texture and atmosphere.

Attention to detail is at the heart of every beautiful interior, from furniture and fabrics to the smallest finishing touches

Careful room planning was essential to maximise storage within the narrow architectural layout, ensuring the finished space feels both elegant and practical
I work with a small number of private clients and holiday property owners across Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
Every project begins with understanding how you want your space to feel — how it is lived in, experienced, and used day to day or across a stay.
From there, I develop a clear design concept, bringing together colour, materials, furnishings and detail to create a scheme that feels balanced, cohesive and easy to live in.
This is typically presented through a digital mood board, supported by a curated swatch box — giving you the clarity and confidence to bring the space together beautifully.
I take on a limited number of projects each year, allowing me to give each one the care, attention and detail it deserves.
If you feel drawn to this way of working, I would be delighted to hear about your home or property.
